St. Peter's came into being in the latter years of the 19th century. In its early years the church held meetings in the Universalist Hall, and later in the Methodist Chapel. The first regular services were held in 1892, when the Reverend Stephen Alling, assistant rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in St. Johnsbury established a mission in Lyndonville as well as missions in Concord and Victory.
The church property was purchased in 1897. The cornerstone was laid in 1898 and Bishop Hall consecrated the church on January 8, 1899. The stained glass window depicting the Transfiguration above the altar was a 1931 gift from Mrs. Homer Watson in memory of her parents and godmother.
Our vestibule window, seen at left, was given in memory of Betty Worden by Waite Worden and family for St. Peter's Centennial Celebration on October 3, 1998. Betty was in charge of the Altar Guild for 35 years. This window reminds us of Betty's dedication and significant gift of service to God and her church,
